Welcome to the Glen Innes Severn Council

CELTIC COUNTRY

Glen Innes Severn Council located in the New England area of N.S.W. contains the town of Glen Innes and villages of Deepwater, Emmaville, Glencoe and Red Range.

World Heritage National Parks such as Gibraltar and Washpool are located on the eastern side of the council area. Sapphires are mined within the council area, which when faceted produce some of the most attractive gemstones in the world. Glen Innes Severn Council is also a fossicker's paradise with several popular sites available.

Sheep and cattle production provide the stimulus for a sound rural economy. Merino sheep produce a high yielding fine wool which is eagerly accepted by the trade. Top quality prime lambs are also grown on fertile pastures. Cattle, as well as feedlotting of cattle produce a healthy beef industry.

Glen Innes enjoys a distinctive, cool climate because of its elevation and sub-tropical latitude. Summer is pleasant with warm days and mild nights. Autumn brings a wide variety of deciduous trees to their full glory. Winter is bracing, with log fires and occasional snowfalls. Spring brings the area to life with blossoms, wildflowers and baby animals. Rainfall is generally between 700 and 1,000 mm per annum.
